Philadelphia’s The Describers Look for the Reset Button with New Single ‘Hurt Starting Over’ Out July 26

What do you do when you need to unlearn? Keep up with the delusion, or cut it off and start over?

That’s what Philly’s The Describers ask in their new single “Hurt Starting Over” – trying to cram some introspection and existential dread into a catchy three-minute tune.

The Describers were formed and are led by Jason McGovern, a singer-songwriter whose songs vary from introspective folk and rootsy rock to synthy new wave experiments.

Most of “Hurt Starting Over” was performed, recorded and mixed by McGovern at his home studio, the Eel Diner Jukebox. The song features Dan Nazario (The Tisburys, Teethcutter, Elijah Ehrhart) on drums, with drums recorded by Justin Nazario at Sound Splitter Studio, and was mastered by Ryan Schwabe.

The new single comes ahead of The Describers’ upcoming album “Ghost in the Rearview” expected in late 2022. The Describers’ most recent singles, “Fever Dream” and “A Little Worse,” were released in 2021, also in anticipation of the new album.

McGovern previously released an album under his own name in 2015, but has been releasing music and performing as and with The Describers since 2018.

Aside from his Describer pursuits, McGovern also plays keyboards for Philly favorites The Tisburys, performing on their upcoming album in 2022, and helped produce their 2021 EP “Pictures of Fireworks.” He also collaborates with other artists in the Philadelphia region representing a wide range of styles, including Andrew Huston and folk mainstay Kyle Swartzwelder.

“Hurt Starting Over” is available July 26 from Eel Diner Jukebox.
