Philly’s The Describers Explore Lies & Body Horror in Punchy, Energetic Single ‘Fever Dream’ Out Sept. 7

What’s it like to decompose on live TV? Drawing on the sounds of neurotic art rock, The Describers explore some of the visceral consequences of doubling down on grift in their new single “Fever Dream.”

“Desperate for breath from behind my smile as every unhinged denial seeps through my flesh,” The Describers’ Jason McGovern sings, evoking the sweaty results of a lie gone too far.

Influenced by the skittish neuroses of “Peter Gabriel III (Melt)” and Talking Heads’ “Fear of Music,” The Describers build “Fever Dream” from a minimalist marimba and bass groove punctuated by stabby synths and saxophone.

The Describers were formed and led by McGovern, a singer-songwriter whose songs vary from introspective folk and rootsy rock to synthy new wave home studio experiments.

“Fever Dream” features fellow Philly songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Huston on drums, and was mastered by Ryan Schwabe.

McGovern previously released an album under his own name in 2015, but has been releasing music and performing as and with The Describers since 2018. He also collaborates with other artists in the Philadelphia area representing a wide range of styles – mixing and contributing to releases in 2021 from The Tisburys and the aforementioned Andrew Huston, and performing alongside folk mainstay Kyle Swartzwelder.

“Fever Dream” is available Sept. 7 from Eel Diner Jukebox.
